MANITOBA SOCCER ASSOCIATION ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET

The Manitoba Soccer Association at their upcoming Annual Awards Banquet where they honor players, referees and volunteers will be honoring two St. Charles Soccer Association/Portage Trail Soccer Club participants. Mackenzie Neufeld is receiving the Harry Harwood Outstanding Youth Male Player award and James Silva is receiving the Dave Zacharias Outstanding Coach award. The SCSA offers its special congratulations to our district recipients!

SPRING REGISTRATION IS COMING!

Registration for the upcoming outdoor season is taking place in early March. Check Outdoor Soccer, Registration Info from the menu on the left or contact your local community centre for more information.

WSA WINNIPEG UNVEILS ITS 2012 SCHEDULE

The United Soccer Leagues has unveiled the PDL schedule and alignment for the 2012 season. For WSA Winnipeg, the schedule features more games played outdoors and home games spread throughout the summer, changes fans have been yearning for. WSA Winnipeg's season will begin on the road on May 12th in Colorado as the second year club takes on the Real Colorado Foxes. The home opener will be on May 19th against the St. Louis Lions at the WSF Indoor Soccer Complex. Both home opening games against St. Louis will be played at the Indoor Complex. All remaining home games will be played at the WSF Outdoor Soccer Complex. Other games of note include June 16th and 17th home games against rivals Thunder Bay Chill and the season finale at home against Springfield Demize on July 14th.

WSA Winnipeg takes on FC Edmonton in two pre-season exhibition matches that will take place on Saturday, March 24th (7:00pm) and Sunday, March 25th (2:00pm) at the WSF Indoor Soccer Complex. Individual tickets to the exhibition games can be purchased on the WSA Winnipeg website or at Red Card Soccer. Tickets are $15 including taxes, per individual game. For WSA Winnipeg Season Ticket Holders, tickets to the FC Edmonton games are included as part of your season ticket package.

WSA Winnipeg is also selling team Ticket Packages where teams can purchase tickets at a 33% discount ($10) and receive an invitation to a coaching clinic hosted by FC Edmonton Head Coach Harry Sinkgraven. This can also be purchased on the WSA Winnipeg website.

Youth teams are encouraged to come wearing their club colours. The games will be great, and the coaches' clinic will be a great benefit to players and coaches alike.

LONG TERM PLAYER DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

The Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association is leading a special task force with the Manitoba Soccer Association to introduce new Long-term Player Development Guidelines. The new program starts with doing a better job of coaching our coaches, but it's end goal is better skill development and enjoyment of the game for children from age 4 up. Our ultimate goal is to improve skills and increase lifelong participation in soccer.

We've created a special newsletter with more information on this important initiative. A printed copy of the newsletter was distributed to every youth soccer team (recreational, developmental and premier-developmental) in the city. You can also download a PDF copy here.

The task force is meeting regularly now and expects to bring forth recommendations to the city's soccer community later this year.

TRAINING

Soccer Coaches Week will be held April 9th to 15th 2012 at the WSF Indoor Facility at the U of M. Information, including a schedule and registration form, are available on the MSA website. SCSA will once again be using the voucher system. You must have your voucher forms signed by the district and returned to MSA with your registration form in order to be considered registered for the clinic.

Mr. Nick Dasovic, Canadian U20 Mens National Team Head Coach, will be conducting a Coaches Clinic on Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 at the Winnipeg Soccer Federation Indoor Complex. The clinic will include a classroom and on field practical session focusing on passing and possession. Limited space is available, so register early at the MSA Office, (204) 925-5752.

Manitoba Lotteries Regional Coaching Academy is hosting several NCCP sessions for coaches in the upcoming months. Download PDF for information.

RESPECT IN SPORTS

This is a requirement for all coaches by the MSA. For information on Respect in Sport visit Sport Manitoba

Coaches are required to complete this on line course by June 30 for this Outdoor Season
Once you have completed this on line course please email info@stcharles-soccer.com The SCSA Program Coordinator with your Respect in Sport Certificate number so that it can be added to your coaches record.

When in doubt, go to your game.
